Uploaded by North Houston on 2025-01-13.
2024 was a record year for the North Houston Association and we can’t help but want to brag about it! Thank you to every volunteer, organization, and board member who made it a year to remember. Below you will find a Year in Review video and printable brag sheet. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
In 2024, NHA advocated for several key issues affecting our region. Some of those include Drainage Improvements for the IH-69 Southbound Frontage Road and FM 1314 Stream Crossing in Porter, the addition of the Halls Bayou Flood Risk Management and Ecosystem Restoration Project to the 2024 WRDA Bill, the Harris County Flood Control District’s proposed (now approved) Tax Increase, and the reevaluation of scoring for the Harris-Galveston Area Council’s Regional Transportation Plan Projects. NHA’s 2024 events brought out over 1000 total members, prospects, and elected or public officials. The largest crowd topped 300 attendees at the Annual Awards & State of the Counties Ceremony.
The first three events of the year spotlighted insightful discussions and topics including the intersection between the development and transportation industries, how to approach and manage the explosive growth in Montgomery County and north Harris County, and the state of these counties within the NHA boundaries. Speakers included: Kim Sachtleben, Transportation Commissioner Steve Alvis, Taylor Reed, Peter Barnhart, Austin Alvis, Matthew Reibenstein, Dimitri Millas, Harris County Pct. 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough, and Harris County Pct. 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey.
At the 2024 Annual Awards Ceremony, NHA honored Jace Houston, former General Manager at the San Jacinto River Authority, with the North Star Award. Second to be honored was Tim Joniec, Director of Government & Stakeholder Relations at Houston Airports, who received the Compass Award. The Environmental Impact Award was presented to the San Jacinto Region 6 Flood Planning Group for their contributions to the first-ever Texas State Flood Plan.
The final three events of the year featured flood control updates from the Harris County Flood Control District, Texas Department of Emergency Management, and San Jacinto River Authority, the debut of NHA’s inaugural Strategic Flood Reduction Priorities document and an address from the Houston Airports Director. The NHA Strategic Mobility Priorities Subcommittee began a series of meetings with public agencies and local government officials to help establish a list of tranportation advocacy priorities. The Par-Tee crew (Shannon Wiesepape, Melanie Folkert, Kim Sachtleben, Kelli Odum) took the 1st place trophy at NHA’s 30th Annual Golf Tournament this year scoring a 44! The very same golf
tournament raised $1,000 in sponsorship dollars to support the Montgomery County Animal Shelter and Services (MCAS) which is devoted to the humane, efficient, high-quality care of animals in the county.
