Our Annual Flood Control Event was Fantastic!
Thank you to Russ Poppe of Harris County Flood Control District, Jace Houston of the San Jacinto River Authority and Alia Vinson of Allen Boone Humphries Robinson LLP for joining us for a morning discussion on flood mitigation and preparation.
Our Moderator Alia Vinson is a Partner at Allen Boone Humphries Robinson (ABHR) and she primarily focuses on public finance, urban development law and local government regulation. She works on long term water supply planning, water infrastructure development, water conservation and reuse projects, flood control infrastructure and the development of parks and recreational facilities, including the bayou greenways project.
Russ Poppe is the Executive Director for the Harris County Flood Control District. Under his direction, the District carries out its mission to devise countywide flood damage reduction plans, implement those plans, and maintain the infrastructure. . The District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of about 1,500 channels, totaling 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins and a 2.5-square mile wetlands mitigation bank.
Jace Houston currently serves as General Manager for the San Jacinto River Authority, a public agency created by the legislature in 1937 for the purpose of developing, conserving, and protecting the water resources of the San Jacinto River basin. He also serves as chairman of the board of the TWCA Risk Management Fund, a self-insurance risk pool for water agencies across Texas.
